More than 500 runners turned out for the second annual New Year’s Eve Back Mountain Trail 5k on Saturday, ringing out the old year with one final race.
Luzerne was really jamming with loud music, people milling around gearing up for the great event. All proceeds benefiting the Dallas Kiwanis, Northbranch Landtrust, and the Back Mountain Trail. While volunteering at the cookie stand, I saw Judy Ripple who came to our area in the 70's from the West Coast and was chagrined to see there were no walking trails. So.... she did something about it - and thus the Back Mountain Trail was born. She was beaming with delight as was I because I was asked to do the painting for the back of the 'TAKE A HIKE' hoodie which shows a trail in the winter as the sun goes down. Very northeastern PA!!!!
They chose the gift of art! What a great surprise and gift for the recipients of these one of kind paintings. I love love love painting these for people seeking the most personal gift ever!

Working with Robert Husty, the Shulman gallery coordinating has been such a rewarding experience. To see how the works I've done over the years relate to one another and all in one space is a rare occurrence! I am so looking forward to tomorrow evening's opening. Hope to see you there!

Farmer's Market Inspiration!
On Saturday's it is my extreme pleasure to go to the farmer's market at the Dallas High School parking lot. Driving up to the area where I spent many years is kinda surreal. I pass the hockey and track fields and see the very updated campus. I see people I went to school with and people from the community with bags full of beautiful local fruits and vegetables. I love the selection at Amy's 'booth'. She has her mom, significant other and daughter as well as helping her... (and us)! A couple Saturdays I selected the bouquet that she arranged and came right home and painted it. It brings a smile to my face when I look at it, hope it brings one to yours too! : )
When a house isn't just a house... but a home....
Here is a home and office of a father who recently passed. This paintings will be a reminder to all the memories invoking a sense of nostalgia which is seen as a positive aspect of emotional well-being.
The Wyoming Valley Children's Association asked me to do an underwater themed mural for their sensory room which is under renovation.
A sensory room is a therapeutic space with a variety of equipment that provides students with special needs with personalized sensory input. This helps the children calm and focus so they can be better prepared for learning and interacting with others. I always love being in this school painting murals. The organization headed by Nina Zanon has such a great feel - the teachers are so dedicated to these youngsters - it oozes love.
