Shavertown Home Gets Original Art

29 March 2011

Yesterday I hung some new pieces in a beautiful home in Shavertown.  Val said 'my house is an open canvas' as there were many blank walls begging for some original art work.  She  picked a pair of salt and pepper shaker paintings for the dining area and a stretched butterfly silk painting for the den.   She and her husband commissioned me to do two pieces for their spacious living room - one of a ginkgo and one of lupine - both images have symbolic significance to their life together with their three beautiful kids.

When in Doubt ----DRAW

09 March 2011

This is the motto of the Art Students League in New York City  where I went every day for four years.  It was my world  - everyone was enthralled with learning everything they could about art.  We all drew from the model religiously.  When in a "slump" I'm reminded by several artists friends to .... just draw.  It soothes me - takes the pressure off and almost always leads me to a better connection with ideas that need to be nurtured into paintings.
Here are some sketches from my moleskin sketchbook - I have been pretty good at a drawing a day......

Tess's Room

02 March 2011

Yesterday I added fairies and birds to Tess's freshly painted pink/ orange room.  She was very intent that the fairies and birds sing to her which her dad promised would happen as she fell asleep.  Her big sister Sophia was great support as I was painting and even let me borrow a dab of her newly aquired black acrylic paint -  thanks Phia!!!!

Visually Uplifting

09 February 2011

Visions in my Head                       44 x 44                                silk paint on silk

I like the idea that an image can give us energy - all day long one has the priviledge to look at things that have the power to uplift them and chose thoughts that feel just a little bit better.

Inspriation Wall

07 February 2011

I've got a special spot in my studio for postcards of artists I've collected and laminated over the years - it's my inspiration wall!

Kisses from Weez

14 January 2011

Monday was the first opportunity this year to get out in the woods with cross country skis.  Weez needs skis too- she spends a lot of time stopping to chew snowballs out of her paws....

New Year Greetings!

07 January 2011

Here's a studio shot of two 4ft x 4ft paintings I recently did.  Coffee cup - May your cup runneth over in 2011!  And Salt and Pepper.  Both are stretched and hanging on the entrance to the Benco Headquarters cafeteria called "Kitty's Kitchen".

Honeysuckle Pink Bamboo Scarves

14 December 2010

The Wall Street Journal Personal Section says the New Hue for 2011 is Honeysuckle Pink.  According to the article it may be because people need some optimism and want to look through rose colored glasses - I'm all for that!
I must  have been on to something because that's the color I chose for the bamboo  scarves I painted for my neices this Christmas.

Tristan Gets Beatles Guitars!

28 October 2010

Tristan loves the Beatles - his room has pictures and memorabilia all over so it only made sense that he would want the guitars of Paul, Ringo and George painted in his room.

Nickolas Gets Owls in His Room

26 October 2010

Nickolas loves and recites everything there is to know about owls. He picked this theme for his room and also picked some powerful words which I put on the ribbon in the owls mouth.  The words being: leader, journey and wisdom - I would say he may like owls because he's one wise youngster!

Piper Gets Fairies Painted Around Her Room

16 October 2010

Piper had an lovely room transformed into a magical arena for her imagination to soar with flying fairies and dragonflies painted all around her room in soothing light pink and green yesterday.   Her big brothers Tristan and Nicholas  are now thinking they need some equal attention in their rooms with perhaps images of the Beatles and/or their guitars.

Two New Silks

05 October 2010

I've had a request for another firefly silk - here it is - with the ubiquitous verticals in primary colors and also two birch trees grounded away form the pack.

LCCC Group

14 September 2010
June Miller took a picture of the group of artists as well as the curator, beneficiary of the gallery and the president.  It was a full packed house Friday night - great to see so many people out and about enjoying one another and viewing art.

Weez Chillin After Going To The Groomer

12 September 2010
Weez was a little put off having to spend the day at the groomers - it cramps her normal active lifestyle.  The whole event proves to be a bit of a nuisance for her but she looks even prettier then ususal.  She's giving me a look like "ok, Mom, that's enough with the camera!"

Double scarf twisted for belt

26 August 2010

As appreciation to Joe Amato and Andrea Donten for hosting the United Way fundraising event in September,  I've been commissioned to make a scarf for Andrea.   A different Andrea suggested I twist the two scarves together to make a cool belt which is shown above..

Dawn and Donna bring Mom for lesson

21 August 2010

Twins Dawn and Donna gave their mom a special birthday surprise by taking her for the day.  The neat thing Trish didn't know where she was going and lucky for me... the first stop was a two hour art fest where they worked on collage pieces.  Afterwards they were taking her to see Eat, Pray, Love and then probably after seeing that movie a feast of Italian food!

Dawn recently had a book published  I Know When to Stay Quiet due in October.  Donna did the photogragh for the book cover.  Needless to say, Trish is one proud Mom.  : )

Cosmos Inpiration

14 August 2010

There's something about white and light color flowers against the blue summer sky that always inspires me to paint on charmeuse silk - 'the Cadillac of silks'.

17 July 2010
Earl and I are teaching painting at Arts Alive for the month of July.  We have 16 high school students who are working very hard gearing up for an big gallery show at the Scranton Cultural Center July 30 starting at 5:30 followed by a performance.

Working in the Studio

29 June 2010
My niece came over and took this shot of me working in the studio - she's 6 ft - hence the 'birds eye view'.  I delivered the works to Art Works today - First Friday in Scranton is going to be rockin' as Nikki Moser has a great exhibition at AFA.  It'll be a great night to get out and about and see some ART!!
