Based on the size of the surface, Leigh creates a study of the mural. Once she's happy with the preliminary work, Leigh ensures that the actual painting surface is properly prepared. Old paint must be removed, and patching and sanding the surface is imperative before the actual painting begins. The surface is then painted with several layers of primer. When the surface is ready to go, Leigh divides the painting surface into quadrants and begins to sketch the design with paint. When she's happy with the setup, she's ready to paint. Depending on the size of the project, it's not uncommon to see Leigh working on a ladder, scissor lift, or scaffolding.
