Recently, on South Main Street in Wilkes Barre, the old Norton and Humphry buildings were vanadalized creating an eyesore. The aftermath of vandalizm is a negative symbol for a community. The W-B Chamber of Commerce has commissioned Leigh to paint a mural to turn a negative into a positive. The visual message will change from one of neglect to one of care.
The challenge to have the mural done sooner than later was a simple one. "It's freezing out," said Leigh. This challenge is being over come with a little ingenuity. The murals are to be completed withing the artist's studio in Kingston. Four large boards that will cover the vandalizm are to be transferred to the site once completed. "The great thing is that if the builiding are renovated in the future the murals can be moved," said Leigh.
The mural is a sereis of two separate paintings depicting an aeral view of the 16 original blocks of Wilkes-Barre. One for each buidling. The first of the two works is anticipated to be completed with the next week.
